Hi, I’m Shan - writer, thinker, listener and creative soul. I was born and raised on the island of Curaçao, Dutch Caribbean. Surrounded by sea breeze, tiny wild flowers, precious little stones, and the whispers of stories everywhere - just waiting to be told. From education to design, every step helped shape how I listen, create, and communicate. I studied at the Akademía Pedagogíko Kòrsou (Curaçao), trained as an art teacher at the Kunstacademie Tilburg and worked in early education at Rotterdam (Netherlands) - years rich with discovery, travel, and self-expression. Life, as it does, brought unexpected turns. After the sudden loss of my mother, I returned home to Curaçao to support my father and begin a long journey of healing. Through it all, I explored many roles - teacher, designer, assistant - but often found workspaces that weren’t safe, supportive, or sustainable. Especially for those of us who don’t fit a mold. Through it all, writing never left me. It became my constant - a quiet place where I could make sense of things, connect with others, and offer something meaningful. Today, I write for:
