3 Steps every Business Owner must Take

​Step 1: Registering at the Chamber of Commerce Curaçao.

It may sound like such a 'duh'-step, but this is where it really begins. As a small business owner, you'll most likely register as a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak). The first thing you'll be asked is what your initial investment in the business is. So, be prepared.
​
​Let's say your initial investment ranges between XCG. 0 to 15.000.
​In that case, you'll be required to pay the following:
  • ​Chamber of Commerce Registration Fee: XCG. 100,-
  • Registration Document in Print: XCG 13,50 
​You'll need this document for the next steps -  don't skip it!​
Note: Investing more than XCG. 15.000? Your registration fee may be higher.

What you need to bring and know - when you visit the Chamber of Commerce Curaçao:
  • Valid ID (Non-residents need a permit - Verklaring van Rechtswege) 
  • Trade Name: (Name of your Business)
  • Business Activities: (Services or Products your Business offers)
  • Business address: (Location of your Business)
  • Invested Capital or Goods: (Your initial investment)

Note: Registration requires an annual payment to stay active.
  • Annual Contribution: XCG. 100,-

​Step 2: Registering at the Belastingdienst for a CRIB Number.

Once you receive your registration document (this may take up to a week), you’ll need to apply for a CRIB number. This number is issued by the Tax Authorities (Belastingdienst) and is essential for official business communications.
​
​For example, if you import products from abroad, your CRIB number is automatically shared with Customs through the Tax Authorities. You’ll also need your CRIB number when filing your income tax return.
​Note: There is no fee for registering your business with the Tax Authorities. 
​What you need - when you register for a CRIB number:
  • Valid ID (Non-residents need a permit - Verklaring van Rechtswege)
  • A copy of your Chamber of Commerce registration.

Step 3: Opening a business account at the bank.

Getting your CRIB number can take up to three weeks. While you wait, check out which bank may be the best fit for your business. Found a bank you like? Great! Give them a call and book an appointment to open your account.

​What you need to bring - Each bank has its own requirements, but you’ll likely be asked:
  • A Valid ID (Non-residents need a permit - Verklaring van Rechtswege)
  • A copy of your Chamber of Commerce registration.
  • A copy of your CRIB number registration.
  • A Business Plan.

Benefits for Small Business Owners
​Did You Know? If you run a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak) and your annual revenue is less than XCG. 30,000 you can apply for an exemption. This basically means that you'll charge sales tax (omzetbelasting) on your products and services, but you will not be required to pay this particular tax to the Tax Authorities.
