Logo Design Guide

Create a Logo that Stands Out

Making your Business Recognizable

3 Steps to a Logo that really Sticks

Step 1:
Choose your Logo.

It may sound cheeky, but the first thing I’ll have you do is check out the competition! Even if your business is the first of its kind, chances are you've side-eyed a few similar businesses before. What does their logo look like? What colors did they choose?

And the most important question of all: Is it memorable?

This exercise isn’t just about drawing inspiration - it also helps you spot common design mistakes. A weak logo can make a brand forgettable, while a well-thought-out one can leave a lasting impression.

Now that you’re in the right mindset, ask yourself:
  • Is my logo a symbol, text, or a combination of both?
  • Does it feel bold and strong or soft and welcoming?
  • Does it represent what my business does or how I want people to feel?

Write down your thoughts before moving to the next step. You’ll thank yourself later!

Step 2:
Choose your Typography.

Ever come across a logo you just couldn’t read? Me too - way too many times. And if it frustrated you, imagine what it does to potential customers.
Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen to you.

Your logo should be memorable for the right reasons. That means choosing a font that’s easy to read, whether it’s large on a billboard or small on a business card.

If you’re going for a specific feeling with your font choice, keep these rules in mind:
  • Serif fonts feel traditional and trustworthy.
  • Sans Serif fonts are modern and clean.
  • Script fonts can be elegant or informal, depending on the style.
  • Display fonts are bold, creative, and attention-grabbing.

Before making a final choice, ask yourself:
  • Is my logo’s typography easy to read?
  • Does it match my business personality?
  • Will it work well across different platforms? (Website, Billboard, Print etc.)

Write down your answers and add them to your notes.
You’re almost there - just one step left!

Step 3: Choose your Colors.

Here’s a step where many business owners - and even designers - tend to fumble. Picking a color just because it’s “pretty” doesn’t always connect with your audience the way you think it will. Pale colors are often forgettable. Super bright colors can come off as… a bit much.

Colors set the vibe. They tell people how to feel about your brand before they even read a word.
So let’s be intentional.

Start by asking yourself: What do I want people to feel when they see my logo?
Write down 2–3 keywords that describe that feeling.
Now, choose three colors that match those words and ask yourself:
  • Do they stand out on both light and dark backgrounds?
  • What do they look like printed on paper?
  • Do they work well across screens?

Add these notes to your list - It's time to design!
