Website Building Guide

Claiming your Digital Corner Online

Building your very own Website

3 Steps to making your Website Real

Step 1:
Claim your Domain and Email.

Let’s start with the basics. When people hear “Domain Name” or “Business Email,” their brain sometimes shuts down - like it’s some high-tech wizardry. But it’s really not that deep. Promise.

Think of it like this: Building your website is like building a house online.
  • First, you need an address - that’s your Domain Name.
  • Then, you’ll want a mailbox so people can contact you - that’s your Email.
So if your domain name is business.com, your email could be [email protected].
So, let's get your Domain Name with these simple steps!

First, you need to buy it from a Domain Registrar. I personally recommend GoDaddy - it’s reliable and beginner-friendly.
  • Go to GoDaddy.com.
  • Type in your desired Domain Name.
  • If it’s available, you can purchase it and register it under your name.
  • Most domains cost under $20 a year.

💡 Tips: Choose something short, easy to spell, and easy to remember.
Stick to a .com if you can - it has better international reach than .cw and fewer technical issues.
Once you’ve claimed your Domain Name, the next step is linking a professional Email to it. It might sound like a small thing, but having an email like [email protected] instantly makes you look more polished.

Now, here’s the honest part: Some email providers make it harder than it needs to be, especially if you’re just starting out. That’s why I usually recommend Zoho Mail. It’s reliable, great for basic use, and not too overwhelming for beginners.

Still, take your time. You might find a different provider that feels like a better fit for you.
And hey - if you’re not ready to make the switch just yet, no stress. Stick to your Gmail for now while you explore your options. You’ll get there. Step by step, at your own pace.

Step 2:
Choose your Website Platform.

Don’t panic - you don’t need to learn to code, or sacrifice your sanity for this.  In fact, let’s go back to the house metaphor. If your domain name is your address and your email is your mailbox, then Hosting is the piece of land your house sits on. It’s where all the parts of your website (pages, images, files) actually live.

When you choose a website builder, it usually comes with Hosting included - and that’s where Weebly shines. It’s beginner-friendly, drag-and-drop, and gets the job done without stress. And, here is why I recommend it:
  • No design experience needed (seriously).
  • Website templates that actually look good.
  • Easy tools for updates when your business grows.
  • Hosting is built in - no extra setup or tech stress (costs approx. $144 per year).

✨ Bonus: You can connect your GoDaddy domain to your Weebly site in just a few clicks. They play nice together, so setup is fast and frustration-free.

Your website is your space to shine. Choose a template you like, swap in your words and images - and just like that, you’re already ahead of the game.

Step 3: Build Pages That Pack a Punch.

You’ve got the platform. Now let’s fill your site with the pages that actually matter. Forget the fluff. These four essentials are all you need to start strong: Home - About - Services - Blog.
Let me explain.

Home Page
It takes the visitor of your website less than a second to form an opinion. So, you need to make it count.
Let people know right away what you do, who you help and why they should stick around.

About Page
People want to know the person behind the business. They want to know your story, why you do what you do and your values. Visitors are looking to connect with you - so don't be afraid to show a little heart.

Services / Products Page
This is where you get to be specific, clear, and honest. Let them know how your services or products bring them value. What are you offering? How can they get it? Make sure it's easy to understand and even easier to act on.
Blog (optional, but powerful!)
Recent studies have shown that people are easily put off by a dead-ish website. A blog shows your site is alive and active. Plus, every blog post gives Google more Keywords to work with (SEO boost!). Share tips, updates, or anything your audience might like.

Stick around and we'll get to the SEO next!

But what about SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) might sound scary, but it’s really just about helping people find you on Google.
Here’s what matters most:
  • Use clear titles and simple language in your website.
  • Think about what you would type into Google if you were looking for your own business. Start there.

💡 Bonus tip: The word 'GUIDE' is one of the most searched terms on Google. Consider using it in your page titles where it makes sense. You don’t need to obsess or overcomplicate it.
